The City of Meridian Idaho...

Meridian was named in 1893 by the Order of Odd Fellows chapter, which adopted the name meridian for its lodge. They recognized that the prime meridian ran through town. The prime meridian is the starting point for all legal descriptions in the state, as far as east west orientation goes.

The first Meridian Idaho settlers lived along 5 Mile Creek and started the first school in 1885. Soon after came the mail and Meridian was finally incorporated in 1903. As the dams delivered water to the area, Dairy's sprang up in abundance. The first creamery was established in Meridian Idaho in 1897. Since 1929 Meridian Idaho has celebrated with a Meridian Dairy day's event in June. Other agricultural interests expanded as water became more readily available, primarily Meridian Idaho fruit orchards. The area was among the largest apiaries (bees) in the nation, as they are needed to raise fruit.

Meridian Idaho has been the fastest growing city in Idaho since 1994, according to the Meridian Idaho chamber of commerce. In spite of all the growth Meridian Idaho retains its small town friendliness and style of living. Meridian Idaho is primarily a bedroom community to Boise Idaho. With that said, the services in the Meridian area are more than adequate. Located in and around the city of Meridian Idaho, you will find Wal-mart, Target, Home Depot, Albertson's as well as many restaurants and other national chain stores like Bed Bath and Beyond as well as Texas Roadhouse, Krispy Kreme Doughtnuts. Meridian Idaho also houses Manufacturers such as Aire Inflatables and Precision Craft. Also Sysco (food) , Blue Cross, and Coors. I am sure there are a few others that I am forgetting about but you get the idea!
