In addition to the mall, big box stores dominate the area. Cabela’s, Best Buy, Rei, and many more. The other area that provides a similar shopping experience is the newer and trendier concept shopping area located on the far west side of Boise. Do you have a preference when it comes to which school your kids attend? Most of us do. One nice thing about west Boise is that half of the area is Boise school district and half is in the old Meridian school district, now called West Ada. I have heard a lot of pros and cons and if you have lived here for some period of time you probably already know which you prefer and why. But if you are new do your homework. I do not think there is a big difference, rather it is more important that the teacher you get and your child mesh. Hard to figure that one out ahead of time.
West Boise has the benefit of great medical care with the two major hospitals both having marque locations situated in or on the edge of west Boise. Saint Alphonsus off Curtis road, just east of the mall offers full service everything. From babies to heart, a world class emergency room and great staff and support. Unfortunately I know this first hand. Not to be outdone, St. Luke’s finished a giant facility on the freeway around where Boise and Meridian meet. It is shiny and new and with emergency, outpatient surgery and lots of doctors’ offices for follow ups etc. I think both these hospitals provide great care and the friendly doctors, nurses and support staff at both always make the pain or procedure a little more bearable.
West Boise is not really west when it comes to its physical relationship to the rest of the valley. It is really centrally located. From the eagle road on ramp it is 15 minutes to downtown Boise and 20 minutes to downtown Caldwell. You can be headed out Hwy 55 in either direction, or 84 in either direction in 30 minutes or less. West Boise is really close to Roaring Springs, the fair grounds and the semi pro baseball stadium. The green belt or downtown Boise are 5 to 10 minutes from most parts of west Boise. If your life style involves work or play in opposite ends of the valley, buy west Boise real estate and save yourself some time.
