Tucked away along the banks of the Boise river, Star is a small village 5 miles downstream of Eagle. Located in northwestern corner of Ada County it is out of the way, quiet and serene, yet still close to the modern conveniences of the big city. It was named in the 19th century by travelers on their way from Middleton to Boise who used the star on the school house to find east and west. The name stuck and it became Star, Idaho.
While it is constantly growing, and has new services and businesses opening all the time, most major services are provided in Eagle. The population of Star was 5,793 at the 2010 census, up from 1,795 in 2000 . There is full service emergency room about 7 minutes away in Eagle. Star has An old time grocery, hardware, lumber, garden and liquor store all in one. It is called “the Merc”. You can’t miss it as it is the largest building in downtown and is right on Highway 44, the main road through downtown. All the basics are there….You will find 4 or 5 restaurants, a brew pub, wine bar, Mexican restaurant, Subway, a Pizza hut, and the Moxie Java for coffee. Most residents travel to a bigger stores in Eagle, the Target in West Boise or the Costco in Nampa to load up. The Merc is the destination for bread milk and eggs. It is a great little town to raise a family or retire. While most of the residents travel to Eagle for middle school and high school, a few residents on the far west side of town go west to Middleton. People who are going to buy a home in Star, need to be aware and research the schools to make sure that they will be happy with the district your new Star home is assigned to. Star homes for sale range from starters in old town, to newer move ups in various sizes. You can Buy a Brand new CBH home, or find an existing one for a little less.
