Update South Fork Boise Log Jam

It is now floatable. The lower logs have been cleared. There is the giant top log still in place, you can float under it like a bridge!

Happy Fathers Day To Me

South Fork Boise Log Lam

Can You Say Dyn-o-mite!

Connie Carrico's pic here...- 868-3255    She Shuttles.

It did not look too bad from on high. But reality set in once we were in the eddy. Log jam is 8 to 12 feet high depending on if you are standing in 3 feet of water. Sorry for the lame pic...photographer tried to tell me we needed more but I was in portage mode by then. The level was 3100ish...the eddie line is soupy and swirly and you only get one chance. Noah slid in forward pushing, made it look easy. I did not come in at a steep enough…

7 Great Hikes For Rafters On

The Middle Fork Of The Salmon River

BoiseRelocation.com

Wondering where the best hiking on the Middle Fork Of The Salmon River is? Here are a few ideas to get you started. With all the water this year rafters on the Middle Fork Of The Salmon River will have short days on the water leaving time to explore the awesomeness that is the "Frank". Lots has been written about hiking in the Frank Church Wilderness area. But mostly with an eye towards leaving from the car. I have not seen many articles about stellar hikes for people rafting the Middle Fork Of The Salmon River. So take a hike on layover days or in the mornings or evenings from campsites along the way. I worked on the Middle Fork in the summers of 1990 and 1991 and passed with…

Idaho Museum Of Mining & Geology

Better Than A Great Value, It's Free!

Idaho The Gem State

One of the wonders of Idaho are the rocks and rock formations, the gems and minerals found throughout this great state. So many and wondrous it is Idaho's nickname. "The Gem State". From the Star Garnets in northern Idaho to the Spencer Opal mine in Eastern Idaho there is wonder to behold. The gold veins, fossils and volcanic rock of Owyhee county in south western Idaho and Malhuer county in eastern Oregon are dynomite as well! One of my favorite things to do is chase chukars, a small upland bird that inhabit most of the state, but especially the desert rimrock of the Owyhees. I often find myself spending more time exploring the rock formations whence I stumble across…

The Visual Arts Collective has sprung from it's roots in the Linen District and is striving to be the place for exhibits, concerts and all things art in Boise. With a place for visual art, performing art, fashion, culture and more, they are all able to live side-by-side in the new space. Now located in Garden City, VAC does more than just offer people a place to see paintings or music but is an integral part of forming the art culture of the area.  Billing itself as Boise’s “first multi-disciplinary arts facility” it is rapidly becoming a popular center for all sorts of artistic experiences. With help and support from donors like The Rauschenberg Foundation, what was once a part time, sometimes sort of deal in the Linen District, has grown into a full…

Idaho History- 1877 Chief Joseph

Whitebird Battle SiteWhitebird Battle Field With Elk Grazing

For those of you moving to Boise, here is a little history about your new homeland! I took these shots of the view from the Whitebird Battle Historical site on Highway 95 on Sunday March 5, 2017. I think Chief Joseph would be pleased to see a herd of elk grazing and lounging right in the middle of the battlefield. See said dots at bottom of picture to the right! The Whitebird Battle was the opening battle of the 1877 war between the Nez Perce and The U.S. Government. For 5 months General O. O. Howard and the U.S. Army pursued the Nez Perce on an 1500 mile fighting retreat which ended with chief Joseph’s now famous speech. Joesph known to the Nez Perce as "Thunder Traveling to the Loftier…

Five Mile Rapid- Roberson Trail Head

Rafting The Bruneau River

How Do I Get To The Roberson Trail?

Rafting The Bruneau RiverGetting Anywhere In The Owyhee Canyonlands & The Bruneau river can be a little daunting, but hey you only live once! With years of rafting and chukar hunting in the high deserts, I have had a few experiences. Some great, some not so great, all beautiful. I once had to drag the back end of my truck along a barbed wire fence on a muddy side hill road. I finally got up enough speed and got back on the road. The most painful and expensive 100 yards I can remember. skreeeeeech. My hunting partner wondered off into a blizzard, thank you Owyhee county sheriffs posse. I even returned to my truck after a day chukar hunting to find we had parked on "expansive…
